Loan Report: 20/12/2017

This week’s report covers the games played since (and including those played on) the 6th December. The previous loan report can be found here.

Alex Hartridge – Truro City – Vanarama League South

Despite having been dropped to the bench for Truro’s league defeat at Oxford City, Alex was recalled to the starting XI for the White Tigers’ trip to Welling, once again playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw. The hosts had taken a 20th minute lead through Jack Parkinson, but were immediately pegged back by Cody Cooke’s 10th goal of the season, before Tyler Harvey gave Truro the lead just after half time.

The home side rallied after going behind as the Cornish defence looked shaky, restoring parity just after the hour mark when Jack Jebb curled in a free kick. The final half hour was an end-to-end affair, but neither side could find the breakthrough. The result leaves Truro without a league win in over a month and just two points clear of 8th placed St Albans (outside the play offs) going into the busy festive period.

The White Tigers were in FA Trophy action last Saturday as they visited a Sutton side currently challenging for the National League title. Alex was involved for the full 90 minutes in what proved to be a drab, soggy affair which came to life late on. Both sides squandered chances throughout the game, but with 15 minutes to go Sutton sub Craig Dundas rifled a far post tap in over the bar. Truro’s Ed Palmer then rattled the bar 5 minutes from time, before Dundas broke Cornish hearts with an 89th minute winner.

Stats:

League: 12 appearances, 11 starts, 1,066 minutes, 1 goal.

FA Cup: 3 appearances, 3 starts, 270 minutes*.

FA Trophy: 2 appearances, 2 starts, 180 minutes.

Last game:

16/12/2017, Sutton 1-0 Truro (FA Trophy), played the full 90 minutes.

*Assumption made that he played the full 90 minutes vs AFC Sudbury in 3rd Qualifying Round.

Kyle Egan & Archie Collins – Dorchester Town – Evo-Stick South Premier

Kyle was straight back into Dorchester’s starting lineup for the home tie with Hitchin on the 9th, having been absent from the last two matchday squads. It proved to be a torrid afternoon for the Magpies, as the visitors ran out 4-1 winners.

The home side began on the back foot as Joshua Bickertstaff put Hitchin in the lead on four minutes with a left-footed strike from a corner routine. Just 10 minutes later the visitors had a penalty: Jonny McNamara’s initial effort was saved by Chris Weale, Elliott Bailey’s follow up was then blocked on the line by the backtracking Kyle Egan, but Mo Baghdadi brought down Lucas Kirkpatrick in the box; who dusted himself off before doubling the Hertfordshire side’s lead from the spot.

The home side’s best chance came shortly after, when Egan’s header found Sam Lanahan, but his effort didn’t trouble the ‘keeper. Goals from Bailey and McNamara either side of half time killed the game off, with Baghdadi’s getting a late consolation for the hosts.

Dorchester welcomed St Ives Town to the Avenue Stadium last Saturday, with Kyle playing the full 90 minutes once again in a game where the Magpies could only name four subs due to injuries and suspension. The hosts were in control for the majority of the first half, taking the lead on 37 minutes through Baghdadi.

The visitors capitulated in the second half, in large part due to a “rampaging” Kyle Egan who “repeatedly embarrased” them down the right hand side. On 51 minutes Kyle went on 60-yard run before setting up Billy Lowes who made it 2-0. Moments later Kyle was at it again, as he “stormed down” the wing to set up Ed Bastick, but the onrushing winger stabbed wide. Kyle did get a second assist in the 59th minute, setting up Baghdadi for his second of the game.

The hosts continued the rampage, with Baghdadi hitting another two before David Jerrard made it 6-0 in stoppage time to secure the Magpies’ biggest win of the season.

It was announced on Monday that Archie Collins had joined Dorchester on a one-month loan deal, going straight onto the bench for that evening’s game against Farnborough. Egan retained his place in the starting XI.

The Magpies were the better team in the first half but failed to make their chances count and were lucky to go into the break level after Jamie Cureton (yes, he’s still going strong at 42) dragged a late effort wide.

The hosts once again upped their game in the second half of their fourth home game in the space of two weeks. Bastick hit a quick fire double early on before being replaced by Archie, who spurned a great chance to score on his debut by getting “his feet in a muddle” after Kyle had set him up. Dorchester ran out eventual 4-0 winners with goals from Lanahan and Baghdadi securing a result that leaves them seven points clear of 21st placed Kings Langley.

Max Smallcombe & Ben Seymour – Bideford – Evo-Stick South West

Yes, you guessed it! Ben Seymour found the back of the net again since the last loan report. Bideford had started their game against Shortwood United on the back foot, as ‘keeper Steve Oliver allowed a James Mayne backpass to roll under his foot and into the net on eight minutes. Nicholas Humphreys doubled the visitors’ lead with their only shot of the half on 23 minutes, but just two minutes later Seymour raced onto a Matt Bye through ball and slotted home to bring the Robins back into the game.

12 minutes from time Seymour was brought down in the box by Ryan Meredith, with the City loanee getting up and calmly rolling in the equaliser from the spot for his 10th league goal (and 12th in all competitions) since joining on loan, extending Bideford’s unbeaten run in the league to five in the process.

The run came to an end just a week later, as the Robins succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat against Yate Town. Ryan Turner had given the hosts the lead on 14 minutes, but two late Steven Davies tap ins condemned Bideford to their first defeat since 4th November. Ben was subbed off in the 67th minute.

Smallcombe continues to be unavailable.
